In ihrer fortlaufenden Arbeitsserie “The Phantoms Project” beschäftigt sich Dana Arieli mit Orten, die faschistischer Herrschaft ausgesetzt waren. Deren Geschichte ist nicht immer offensichtlich. Die ehemaligen Funktionen sind oft hinter der Profanität ihrer heutigen Erscheinung und Nutzungsform verborgen. Mal sind es Hausfassaden, mal Parkplätze.
In der Galerie Historischer Keller zeigt Arieli eine Zwischenbilanz: Fotografien aus 15 Jahren Arbeit, die noch nicht abgeschlossen ist. Hinzu kommt die Dokumentation eines Rundgangs, den sie durch den Stadtraum von Spandau unternommen hat. Das Sichtbare und Unsichtbare, das bei der Annäherung an die Orte auftaucht, verweist auf das Sagbare und Unsagbare ihrer Kontexte und ein kollektives Gedächtnis.

In her ongoing series “The Phantoms Project,” Dana Arieli explores locations once affected by fascist rule. Their history is not always apparent, as former functions are often concealed by the mundane aspects of their current appearance and use. Sometimes they are building facades; sometimes, they are parking lots.
In the Galerie Historischer Keller, Arieli presents an interim assessment: photographs from 15 years of work, that has not yet been completed. Additionally, visitors see a documentation of a tour she conducted through the urban space of Spandau. The visible and invisible elements that emerge when approaching these places allude to the expressible and inexpressible aspects of their contexts and collective memory.
Dana Arieli is a photographer and Professor of History at the Faculty of Design at the Holon Institute of Technology in Israel.
